5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is naturally produced in your body from the amino acid tryptophan. Your body uses it to produce serotonin, a chemical messenger that sends signals between your nerve cells. Serotonin may also be converted in the body to melatonin, an important neurotransmitter that regulates the sleep-wake cycle.

Our 5-HTP is an excellent choice for anyone wishing to support their mood or sleep cycle naturally. 5-HTP is the immediate amino acid precursor to serotonin and is derived from tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid found in food, principally in meat and dairy products, but only about 3% of oral tryptophan is converted into serotonin. 70% of oral 5-HTP, on the other hand, is converted into serotonin, but is not found in food.

Recommended Dose

1-2 capsules daily, or as directed. Up to 600mg per day may be taken, although loose stools may result from higher doses.

For children, the dosage of 5-HTP should be reduced from the adult dose to 20mg for every 10kg of body weight.
